Bruce Bruce performed during 'Comedy You Can Believe In,' hosted by David Alan Grier as part of the inaugural TBS Presents A Very Funny Festival: Just for Laughs Chicago, held June 17-21, 2009. More information about the event can be found here.
He calls himself the "Mayor of Comedy" because "I help so many comedians get involved and get into this business." But no headline-grabbing kickbacks for this punch line politician: "It's all volunteer work."
Bruce is still doing "comedy for everyday life" as he puts it. One big difference, now that he's lost a lot of weight, is that he doesn't polish off a pizza after the show. The former barbecue chef and Frito-Lays salesman is slimming down.
"I'm in a groove, eating good and working out. You ask yourself, you want to live or die? You want to take a pill for the rest of you life?" he asks in a moment of seriousness. "I'm still a big guy. I'm power lifting now, trying to look sexy."
Bruce performs at the Improv in the Powerhouse, 2000 Sycamore St. on the west bank of Cleveland's Flats. Shows are 8 and 10:15 p.m. Friday, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are ($25.). Call 216-696-4677.
While known for his uproarious adult comedy, Bruce Bruce prides himself on not having to resort to vulgarity to get a laugh, and does family-friendly material as well. All this talent combined with a dazzling personality has earned Bruce Bruce the title "Mayor of Comedy." In this book, Bruce Bruce lets loose on a host of subjects, including family, fat people, church, girlfriends, and much more.
